Roofting Repair: Common roofing Problems

Every homeowner knows how important it is to keep roofs functioning properly. While you should only have to replace your roof every 20 years or so, the need for roofing repairs will probably be more frequent than that. The complexity of the repairs will vary drastically depending on the quality of your roof installation and the weather conditions in your area. If you begin to notice signs of wear on your roof or leaking in your roof or ceilings, it is always a good idea to contact a roofing contractor to take a look. In order to expedite the repair process, however, it is also a good idea to be familiar with some of the most common roofing issues.

Cracked Flashing

There is thin layer of metal located under your shingles. This is called flashing and it provides water-resistant barrier. Flashingseals can crack or break open completely, causing leaks in your roof.

Missing or Broken Shingles

Shingles are the top layer of your roof. They can curl, break, or even completely blow off your roof. Because shingles are the outer-most protective layer of your roof, it is important that you keep them well maintained. Without them, the rest of your roof becomes more susceptible to damage.

Ice Dam Buildups

During extremely cold weather, ice dams can collect around the edge of your roof. These are bad news because they prevent the melting snow and ice from draining properly. This puts significant strain of you roof due to the weight of the excess water and ice that linger. Sitting water can also damage shingles and ware down the flashing on your roof.

Clogged Gutters

As roofing repairs go, this is a pretty minor problem to encounter. Clogged gutters are usually due to leaves and other debris collecting in your gutters. This results in improper drainage of water. You can usually identify this problem easily by noting if any water is draining from your gutter spouts during a rain storm.

Cracked Chimney

If you do not have a chimney, then this is a problem you will not need to worry about. If you do, however, have a chimney, it is possible for holes to develop in the mortar or the flashing around it to have issues.

You will undoubtedly require roofing repair at some point during your time as a homeowner. Elevated roofing can provide the assistance you need with their quality services and experienced contractors.
